Like most independent musicians all over the world the current crisis has left me with no gigs for the foreseeable future and a large chunk of my income has vanished. I've set this download to 'name your price' with no minimum, obviously any donations are gratefully received but if you have no money and want something new to listen to please enter zero and download for free, I insist. This virus crisis has left most people struggling, not just musicians. Have a listen, download if you like it and wash your hands!!

Elder Green 03:13

about

Way, way back in 2016 I wrote a song called The Blinkered Blues about a belligerent preacher named Barnabas. It was going to be part of a concept project centred around him, but eventually I changed my mind about the whole thing and the song became part of the 'Simple Songs For These Complicated Times' album. As part of the concept I'd started learning some old 'Spirituals' and I recorded a few of them on a battered rusty old resonator guitar. The plan was to include these with some narration/story tracks in between on a separate CD, to accompany the album proper. I abandoned the whole project, but kept the songs. I never intended to release these, but now seems like a good time to do so.

These five songs were recorded on a flood damaged, battered and rusty Ozark steel bodied guitar that has terrible intonation and is only good for playing slide on. I had a cold at the time of recording and started to lose my voice at the end of the session, I barely got through Elder Green before my voice gave out completely.
