Carsten Pieper I can't help it, but this artist's work simply resonates with me (sorry for the pun).

I do like his "normal" bluesy stuff as well as his cinematic, morrionesque outings very much, but it's really getting interesting, when he deviates from his better known paths! Here we have some instrumental sonic explorations mostly on stringed instrument without any synthesizers, looping or samplers. Fascinating! Favorite track: [~resonate~].

All sounds were made with acoustic instruments, no synthesisers or VSTs were used on this EP. Every sound was achieved using reverb, delay and modulation effects, or 'unconventional' playing techniques. Everything was played live, recorded in real time with no loops, samples or 'copy and paste' audio editing.

Bowed and picked resonator guitars make up the majority of the instrumentation, with bowed acoustic bass, nylon string banjo, cigar box fiddle and pitch shifted harmonica.

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points. This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff. Even without a Hammond B3, it gets an easy A+... rick-taylor
